What Is So Great About Dog Breeds Mixed?

Some people prefer a dog that is a pure bred. This desire may be rooted in many different factors, such as wanting a pet that exhibits all the traits normally associated with that breed to wanting to own a pet that is also a status symbol. For many of us, however, the main goal is having a pet that provides us with companionship, unconditional love, and tends to demand little more than some affection and the occasional walk. When that is a case, going with dog breeds mixed into a unique blend will often do the trick. Here are some of the great points of finding an agreeable and lovable mixed breed to become part of your family.

First, there is no end to the variety of mixed breeds out there today. Some of these are breeds mixed intentionally, as a means of hopefully resulting in dogs that exhibit desirable qualities from both breeds. In other situations, the dog is the result of something more random. In either case, the mixed breed pet can prove to be a dog that has all the qualities you want and is just unique enough to catch your eye, whether at a breeder's kennel or at the local animal shelter.

Speaking of animal shelters, these are excellent places to look for mixed dog breeds mixed among the pure bred which seem to fill the bill. One of the advantages of adopting a pet from the animal shelter is that you can often secure the pet for a very nominal price, along with a commitment to take the dog to a vet and get the proper shots. However, keep in mind this may not be like going to pick up a loaf of bread. Many shelters today have some sort of basic screening in place, and you will have to comply with standards set by the shelter before you will be allowed to adopt any dog in the care of the facility.

Along with being a little unique and relatively inexpensive to acquire, the fact is that many mixed breed dogs have a disposition that makes them ideal for house pets. The dogs often will interact with children very well. In fact, the dog may become so attached to the children that the animal will become quite protective. This can be a sense of comfort, as it means the family dog is likely to do whatever it takes in order to prevent the children from being harmed by other animals or people.

The fact is that dog breeds mixed among two complimentary breeds can be one of the most loving companions you could have in the family. When you find a mixed breed that takes to all family members and demonstrates the willingness to take care of his territory, you have found a truly important addition to the household.
